Environmental Fate of Mancozeb
نویسنده
چکیده
Mancozeb is one member of ethylenebisdiothiocarbamate (EBDC) fungicides. This compound has a negligible vapor pressure, therefore it has a low potential to volatilize into the air. In water, mancozeb can be quickly hydrolyzed with a half-life of less than 2 days. The identified hydrolysis degradates are ethylenethiourea (ETU), ethyleneurea (EU) and ethylene bisisothiocyanate sulfide (EBIS). Mancozeb is of low soil persistence with half-lives of less than 2 and 8 days in aerobic and anaerobic soils, respectively. The major metabolites are ETU and EU. Under aerobic conditions, the metabolites breakdown further to produce CO2. Mancozeb and its degradates moderately bind to soils with adsorption coefficient values (Kd) varied from 7 to 12 cm/g. The compound has moderate mobile potential in soils, but due to the relatively high rate of chemical and microbial degradation mancozeb is not likely to leach into subsurface flow.

DNA damage in Wistar rats exposed to dithiocarbamate pesticide mancozeb.
Pesticides are used in large amounts in agriculture and the evaluation of their toxic effects is of major concern to public and environmental health. The aim of the present study was to investigate the genotoxic potential of a commercial formulation of the fungicide mancozeb by the micronucleus test in bone marrow and the comet assay in total blood of Wistar rats. Adult male Wistar rats were tr...
متن کاملComparison of linuron degradation in the presence of pesticide mixtures in soil under laboratory conditions
It is widely recognised that complex interactions occur between chemicals in mixtures. In many agricultural situations, the use of tank mixes and complex spray programs is a common practice. Insecticides, fungicides and a herbicide being applied in potato protection were used in this research. Interactions between linuron and insecticides, such as thiamethoxam or clothianidin, and fungicides, s...

Mancozeb, a fungicide of a manganese-zinc ethylenebisdithio-carbamate (EBDC), was administered by gavage at doses of 200, 400, 600 and 800 mg/kg/day to female virgin mice for 30 days. The mice were autopsied on 31st day. Mice were also treated with similar doses for a period of 30 days and the treatment was withdrawn for a further period of 30 days for reversible study. The mice were autopsied...
متن کاملAerial Application of Mancozeb and Urinary Ethylene Thiourea (ETU) Concentrations among Pregnant Women in Costa Rica: The Infants’ Environmental Health Study (ISA)
BACKGROUND Mancozeb and its main metabolite ethylene thiourea (ETU) may alter thyroid function; thyroid hormones are essential for fetal brain development. In Costa Rica, mancozeb is aerially sprayed at large-scale banana plantations on a weekly basis. OBJECTIVES Our goals were to evaluate urinary ETU concentrations in pregnant women living near large-scale banana plantations, compare their e...

Manganese (Mn), an essential nutrient, is a neurotoxicant at high concentrations. We measured Mn concentrations in repeated blood and hair samples collected from 449 pregnant women living near banana plantations with extensive aerial spraying of Mn-containing fungicide mancozeb in Costa Rica, and examined environmental and lifestyle factors associated with these biomarkers. Mean blood Mn and ge...
